The good news is there are some legal and safe ways to conserve gas for your vehicle. Keep your vehicle at steady speeds under 40 mph whenever possible. Avoid start and stop driving if you safely and legally can. Keep your tires filled to the proper inflation level but do not overfill. Take your car for regular tune ups, oil changes and filter changes. Also don't forget about strategies like carpooling and consolidating trips into one outing rather than numerous ones. And of course, when you are able to walk or bike instead of drive by all means do so.

There are plenty of gas saving strategies that can extend your mileage. You don't have to use dangerous or illegal hypermiling techniques, nor should you.
