With the country in the midst of a fuel crisis, gas prices are climbing higher than ever. Many consumers want the most mileage for their money, which can often be achieved by choosing what could be called gas saving vehicles over vehicles known as gas guzzlers. Today's car makers offer a diverse range of choices for the consumer who wants a car that conserves gas and gives them plenty of mileage for their money. In this article we will explore a few choices on the market today. First we will start with the vehicle that is considered the gold standard -- the Toyota Prius.
The Toyota Prius is the vehicle that brought hybrids to the mainstream market. Not only do suburban families drive these cars, eco-conscious celebrities like Leonardo DiCaprio do as well. In addition to excellent EPA mileage this vehicle offers a spacious interior with a hatchback. You will find the Prius a pleasure to drive. This vehicle offers 45 MPG on average, which is quite substantial for a car as roomy as the Toyota Prius. So be sure to give one of these vehicles your consideration, especially if you're shopping for a hybrid.
A surprising entry on our list is the Mini Cooper. These diminutive cars get up to 28 MPG in the city and up to 37 MPG on the highway. This is pretty good for a car that's not a hybrid. If you're just not in the market for such a small car you may want to take a look at the Nissan Altima. This is an ideal family car because it is designed to offer a good deal of room, has up to date safety features and looks stylish on the road. It is estimated that this vehicle gets up to 24 MPG in the city and up to 31 on the highway. Another offering from Nissan is the Sentra, which can get up to 25 MPG in the city and 33 on the highway depending on whether you go for a manual or automatic transmission.
