Gas Saving Products
There are all kinds of gas saving products advertised in the media these days. The reason for this is because gas prices are at an all time high and consumers are feeling the strain. Companies who create and market these products see a hungry market of people who want to increase mileage and save money. However, are the products being sold actually as good as they sound? According to the FTC and EPA, probably not. The EPA tested more than 100 fuel saving devices and found none of them make any substantial difference. The results of these tests can be viewed on their official government website.
Some studies actually found that certain devices can harm your engine and even increase the level of harmful emissions from your automobile. This is definitely something you want to avoid. If you are someone who really wants to try out a fuel saving device, do extensive research and read the reviews and reports on the EPA site before buying anything. Maybe you've already decided that these devices are not for you. Luckily there are a variety of methods you can employ that can increase your mileage and save gas.
For example, plan your travel routes in advance. Look for the shortest way to get where you're going and consolidate your errands into one outing rather than multiple trips. Consider carpooling with co-workers, other parents at your child's school, and even with friends and family when taking care of personal and household issues. Another way to save gas is to keep your car at a steady speed no higher than 55 mph because speeds higher than that significantly reduce your mileage. Keep your windows up and use your air conditioner if you get hot. Regular tune ups are crucial, as is keeping your tires properly inflated.
In general, gas saving products should be avoided unless you have done extensive research and found a product that you trust. As mentioned before, the FTC and EPA government websites offer detailed reviews of fuel saving devices you should look over. You might also want to search the Internet for user reviews as well. You can also find lots of government and non-government sites offering fuel saving tips. With a little planning you can increase your mileage and save more of your hard earned money.
